The Letdown
Early into a new found friendship, someone had shared a sentiment so very raw and real that well over a decade later their words are as crisp and clear in my soul today as they were when I first heard them.
“Some day, at some point in our friendship, I will let you down. I will not mean to, I may not know that I did. But know that I am human and incredibly imperfect. For this I am sorry.”
To this very moment I cannot recall any situation or circumstance when this particular individual has indeed let me down, but I can assure you that I have most likely let them down. And I have no one to blame but myself.
Psalm 17:6, I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.
Too often within the beautiful gift that is the body of the church, there exists sorrowful souls who long to be fulfilled with God’s purpose for their lives yet fail to recognize that it’s only God who can fulfill them. Too often we put our trust upon the shoulders of people and not the mighty shoulders of Jesus. We think that its the movers and shakers of this world that will help us get where we need to go. The truth that God uses people as His vessels to fulfill His purposes somehow gets lost in translation and we begin to put our trust in each other leaving God out of the situation by setting aside His sovereignty.
And then when the situation or circumstance falls apart and someone lets us down, we blame God. We rally our hurt and anger towards heaven questioning why He closed the door or set us up for failure.
But we must ask ourselves a most poignant question: to this very moment, can we recall any situation or circumstance when Jesus has indeed failed us? A moment when He let us down? Not likely, but I can assure you that somewhere along our journey of sanctification we have let Him down.
And right there is where we find the beauty: the gift of the body of the church. It is the body of Christ. Not one of us can claim perfection for we all have moments where we are a sorrowful soul, but Jesus desires to be the perfecter of our faith. Jesus will never let us down but lift us up bringing clarity to our struggles and unity in our relationships.
Now is the time for us to put aside our past hurts, failures, and letdowns. Now is the time to take our eyes off of each other and encourage one another to put them upon Jesus. Now is the time to completely rely upon the one true God who never fails to show up when we call.
Father, I praise you for your extravagant love that blankets my sorrowful soul. Thank you for the gift that is your church- brothers and sisters in Christ that stand together united for your cause. Perfect my faith making it stronger than it was the day before, and thank you for never letting me down. In Jesus name, amen.

Melissa, I’ve missed you. The body of Christ is such a beautiful thing. So much THIS: ““Some day, at some point in our friendship, I will let you down. I will not mean to, I may not know that I did. But know that I am human and incredibly imperfect. For this I am sorry.”
Oh Tara, you are so very kind. Thank you…
