The Nervous Dance
The parking lot was busy. Vehicles of all sizes were attempting to move themselves in and out of the congested traffic. I too was in vain attempt of moving my car out of the orderly yellow lines in order to get home.
Out of the corner of my tired eye I caught a glimpse of a woman trying to move across the parking lot aiming for the sliding grocery store doors. Car after car neglected to see her which brought me clarity to her nervous dance.
I paused in order to make eye contact with the woman. When she caught my stare I gestured her forward and firmly planted my car in the middle of the lane so that she could safely cross. I watched as she skittered across the worn and faded pavement.
I too could have easily missed her need for I too was eager to remove myself from the noisy parking lot. It was the simple nervous dance of a pedestrian that showed me how very often we miss the opportunity to fulfill the need of another before our own.
James 3:17, But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favouritism and is always sincere.
There are a million prayers prayed every millionth of a second. And I am sure that many of those prayers are desperate ones uttered off the lips of frustrated souls not knowing what God is up to or how He is truly working all things together. And God is listening. He hears every one. And He greatly desires to bring clarity to each and every prayer… at the appointed time. And I am sure that many more of those prayers are from passionate souls who deeply desire to fulfill their calling and understand their purpose. We have dreams and visions and grand plans. Yes, God is listening. Know that He hears every one.
Perhaps when we do not quite understand how He is working in our lives, or we struggle to hear His voice among the masses, He is really just patiently waiting for us to not be in such a hurry. Dreams, visions, and grand plans do not unveil themselves but unfold themselves in our lives.
When we are in a hurry to move God along, we often make the innocent mistake of focusing on what isn’t happening. We do not seem to recognize the truth that for us to fulfill what we are called to do, there exists along the worn and faded path another soul who fits into our blueprint. And God is preparing them as well.
Now is the time for us to understand that there need not be a flurry of hurry in our process of sanctification. Now is the time for us to open our eyes and recognize the nervous dance of another. And perhaps now is the time for us to gesture someone else forward and plant ourselves in the middle of their mess so that they may safely cross into their promised land.
Father, I know that you have great plans for me just like you have great plans for us all. Help me to recognize the nervous dance of another so that I may use my own gifts and abilities to assist them in fulfilling a dream. In Jesus name, amen.
