Psalm 57:1, Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by.
My fingers were moving across the screen of my phone faster than my thoughts could fully process what I was trying to say. Familiar pings were bouncing back and forth between she and I as we shared similar sentiments in regards to a situation that had arisen.
I understood where her heart stood and felt deeply for my friend. When the emotional storm of change begins its stirrings, we sometimes do not know how to prepare because change can be difficult no matter the situation or circumstance. Change takes a period of adjustment and often a time of mourning. And change has the ability to make a soul feel longing for what was and what will no longer be.
Be sure that standing in the sanctuary of vulnerability opens us up to the winds of change. Yes, those winds are going to begin to blow, picking up steam from one emotion to another. The waves of emotion have within them the power to destroy us. They are unreliable sometimes and can give the enemy of our soul an open door to breathe little lies into our very being. These falsehoods are used to not only bring us down, but bring forth doubt that our Redeemer is even with us, let alone covering us from the rain.
Yes, beloved, but My Word does not promise that the winds of change would not sting sometimes when they blow.
The landscape of the world is rough terrain to navigate, but Jesus has brought a boat to carry us through the waves- not over or around them. Though the roar of the emotional waters may soak us, we will not drown in the black abyss.
Sometimes we just need to sit back, allow the rock of the boat to soothe us, and watch the storm. The emotional storms will come and go. Rest assure, dear child, that sunshine will appear again.
Father, may we see the sunshine through the clouds when we are faced with an emotional storm. May we press into you and not into the rain. And Father, may we be reminded that the boat will not capsize when you are at the wheel. Amen.
What storms of life have you weathered?
