Keep On Dreaming
As I drove along the dull pavement, I noticed how dirty my front windshield had become. With the flick of my wrist, I attempted to rectify the problem and instantly the damp wipers created two crisp streaks across the glass. The new view caused me to look up into the sky where I noticed deep indigo clouds streaked with large patches of grey. The dreary days of winter sit heavy on the horizon though the dog days of summer are not too far behind.
I watched with interest as something peculiar danced across the glass. It appeared to be a flake of sorts. Then I watched as several more made their way down from the deep indigo clouds. It was only a few wet snowflakes in my line of vision, but as quickly as they came, they were gone.
Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Often when we are seeking our purpose by pressing into Jesus with everything we’ve got in order to pursue our passions and dreams, it is as if the heavens open up for mere moments and we are given powerful brief glimpses of our deepest desires fleshing themselves out. And like the snowflakes that danced down from the skies were gone as quickly as they came, so too our glimpses into what lies ahead for our lives can disappear. But though they may no longer be visible to the human eye, they have the ability to leave behind deep impressions upon our heart and soul.
Perhaps The Lord in all His wisdom does this to encourage our faith and keep us on the path to righteousness. Our process of sanctification- this journey we are on with Jesus- is a process to make us holy. To be holy is to be set apart from the world for God and His good works. If we are given little glimpses into our dreams, it fuels our faith to keep on dreaming, have greater purpose and direction with our prayers, and stand a little firmer on the truth that He is setting the path before us.
These glimpses are the sparks that set aflame the fire that burns within us to fulfill our purpose. That very fire of faith that has the ability and power to not only transform our lives, but the lives of others. Now is the time for us to stand upon one of the greatest of encouragements: knowing that He cares and desires to show us His power by pouring out blessing in the most brilliant form of love: taking action in our lives.
Father, as I see the brief glimpses into my future that you hold so dearly in your hands, may I be encouraged to keep on working towards my dreams. May my eyes be open to your presence in my life and my ears to hear your voice. In Jesus name, amen.
