Galatians 5:22-23, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

She was young, maybe in her early twenties. Dark brown hair was tied fashionably on top of her head illuminating her bright smile and milky complexion. She was beautiful and lovely and dripping with an air of confidence. Not the arrogant kind, but the can’t-quite-put-a-finger-on-it kind. In a matter of a few fleeting moments she spoke her truth.

She shared, “I am in a recovery addiction program. I am recovering from…” She shared with her intimate ramblings. My heart soared as my ears took them all in. Her mother, an elder version of the young woman, stood to my right watching as her daughter shared with pride exactly where she was in her personal journey without over sharing any personal details. To have done that was a form of art. I stood in awe as I watched her eyes sparkle.

A moment, no matter how fleeting, has within it the power to generate a magnificent impact upon a wayward soul like mine. This young woman was standing in the sanctuary of vulnerability, and it was The Lord’s spirit at work that I witnessed this day. The spirit that gives us the peace to carry on. The spirit that gives us the power to move forward. It was the Holy Spirit at work within the heart and soul of this precious child that led to me to see Him in a most intimate way.

To stand in vulnerability with Jesus is to let Him in to begin His greatest work. To stand in vulnerability with Jesus is to hand over the control and allow Him to move us forward. And to stand in vulnerability with Jesus is to be free of the things that desire to control us. To stand in vulnerability with Jesus is to witness great power in action.

It is incredibly difficult to see it His great works and progress unfold when some days all you feel is weariness from the battle. And a battle ground is barren of life.

But have no fear beloved, His great works within us are evident for all to see. Nothing blooms from a dead garden, but God’s living water can seep into the thirsty ground and bring forth life and the sweetest of fruits into our spirit.

The fruit is what all others will see when we stand in vulnerability to Jesus. Jesus gives us the power to stand in vulnerability with others. Standing in vulnerability with others gives them the freedom to partake of the fruit.

Father, I ask that you help us to see your great power at work within others so that we may rejoice with them in their transformation. May we drink heavily from your well so that the fruits we offer be only the sweetest. And may we always stand in the sanctuary of vulnerability in order to allow your power to be known and not our own. Amen.
