Exodus 15:11, “Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?

I moved my car along the paved road in steady rhythm. The hour was early so the road was calm and void of traffic. As I followed the directions making my way back to the church, I took in the scenery around me and found enjoyment in the lingering splatter of autumns colours.

Since I was driving in unfamiliar territory, I was surprised as I rounded a bend in the road and found myself driving only mere feet from a roaring waters edge. The deep grey waters pulled themselves atop one another and crashed with frothy white tips against the shoreline. Each wave appeared to gain momentum as it sputtered and collided with another.

Dotting the road on the opposite side of the water were beautiful grand homes. Many towered high with massive, uniquely structured windows that afforded the homeowner only the most magnificent views of the water. Though the windows were positioned to take in the scenery, home after home down this shoreline road had drapes drawn tightly closed.

I did not just encounter the power and beauty of the shore this very morning, I encountered- in my soul- the emotion of wonder. The raw power of the water is nearly hypnotizing, but I was driving- and attempting to drive in a relatively straight line while consuming a cup of hot coffee at such an early hour. I dared to gaze upon the water as many times I could for I did not wish to miss its beauty.

And I remembered its beauty hours after I encountered it. I hope to stumble upon such beauty again.

But I do. I stumble upon beauty each and every day. Why do I not always experience the emotion of wonder every time I do?

Beloved, often you take for granted the power and beauty of my works.

Be still my soul. Let me stop and breathe in those words as His power causes my heart to submit unto His presence. Let me not stand, but sit awhile in the sanctuary of vulnerability. Not sit, lay.

How easily we have the ability to take all that is majestic for granted when we grow accustomed to its presence in our life. I assume that for many homeowners along that shoreline, they already know, before their feet hit the floor in the morning, what awaits them on the other side of the drawn drapes. So, perhaps on some days they choose to just leave the drapes closed.

How easily we have the ability to take The Lord for granted when we grow accustomed to His presence in our life. I assume that there are many children of God who already know, before their feet hit the floor in the morning, what awaits them in the day to come. So, perhaps on some days they choose to just keep their spiritual eyes closed.

Let us not grow accustomed to His presence, but seek the wonder in each messy moment after messy moment. Oh, how content our souls would be if only we laid down in the sanctuary of vulnerability and allowed His very presence to wash over us.

Father, You are power. You are beauty. You are wonder. Your works are mighty and majestic. May our souls be constructed with uniquely structured windows that we may be afforded the most magnificent of views of your works. Amen.
