25 Days of Advent: Forged for our Hope – Day 2

Christmas is considered the most magical time of the year. Through festive songs, food, and family traditions, we are encouraged to let our inner child shine as brightly as the Christmas star itself. And there was none who understood the simple joys of a child greater than the One who came to us as a child. God understood the beauty in such innocence.

But Christmas isn’t all sparkle and magic for many. It may be a time where deep-seeded pain and loneliness begin to surface causing some to inwardly curse and crumble. The child that lies within is silenced locked into a state of disbelief.

But nestled within the pages of the Psalms there lies a prophesy of the coming Messiah, and its words speak of the power the Messiah would hold within His Spirit drawing upon the innocence the world so deeply craves:

Psalm 8:2, Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.

Children have the ability to see truth so plainly. They do not ponder long enough to allow seeds of doubt to linger. And the power of such simple praise is strong enough to silence the enemy who greatly desires to rob us of our innocence.

In the Gospel of Matthew we find Jesus cleansing the temple driving out all those who bought and sold defiling what was to be a house of prayer for The Lord. Jesus was clearing out that which was tainted so what was pure may be established.

There were children there among the crowd who watched in fascination His actions of anger as He turned over tables sweeping out the filth. Children who had the ability to see the truth so plainly before them. These children cried out from the crowd, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”.

Matthew 21:16, “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him.

“Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read,

“‘From the lips of children and infants
you, Lord, have called forth your praise’?”

And there lies our hope. Though the oppression of the enemy desires to rob us of all that is pure, our hope is being forged when we can stand upon the truth and marvel at the miracle of this prophesy. Our hope is being forged when we can unlock the silent child within, stand among the crowd, and cry out the name Hosanna shining as brightly as the Christmas star itself.

Father, as I press on being forged for my hope, may I stand firm upon the miracles that have already come to pass. May my voice be as bright as your spirit that is within me. In Jesus name, amen.
