When The Dust Settles
Sometimes the circumstances of life can make us feel like we are caught standing within a gritty black cloud of a dust storm. We cannot see what may be ahead of us, let alone find our footing while attempting to move forward.
Louder Than Words
I distinctly remember the look of frustration in my friend's eyes as she shared her greatest burden: she had accepted Jesus into heart but her husband claimed to have no interest in giving his life to God.
Rest for the Weary
I was abruptly awoken out of a sleepy slumber by my eldest child. Apparently my youngest child needed me. In a daze, I made my way to her bedroom only to be confronted with the tell-tale scents of sickness.
Self-Discipline to Spirit-Discipline
Whether it be food, time, or activities, each and every one of us has something that hinders us from experiencing God's best for our life. In raw honesty, I can admit that self discipline is one of the most difficult fruits I need to partake of each and every day.
The Spirit Cycle
Her eyes spoke more words than her mouth did when she asked me to pray for her. After finding a lump, my sweet friend became greatly fearful of the next steps that must follow. I assured her that I would indeed bang on the doors of heaven's throne room and plead her case.
Be Still
In our culture, taking time out for rest and relaxation is difficult to say the least. We are creatures of habit who schedule out our days, hours, minutes, and moments. Perhaps we over control our time in order to feel in control of our time.
Sweet Confection; Bitter Truth
We stood in the seemingly never ending line and waited for our turn to place an order. Before us on display under a cool glass shield was every colour and flavour of the ice cream rainbow. After you choose your creamy base, there are an unlimited number of choices at your fingertips to create your very own one-of-a-kind sweet confection.
When the End of the Book Has Come
Sitting amongst a sea of black, I listened as the pastor shared words of comfort to those who were grieving the loss of a beloved man. A great many kind words and amusing stories were shared about his life. One particular sentiment was shared many times and I mulled it over in my heart and mind. It was shared that this beloved man who had passed was a humble soul capable of great love.
Fragile Humanity
I held the items I was purchasing tightly in my left hand while clutching my preschooler tightly in my right hand. The line at the checkout was moving at a slow pace. I noticed that the next lane had a much shorter line so I thought to move over.
Great Change, Great Reward
We simply cannot be afraid of change. Sometimes we think that a situation or circumstance around us needs to change, but quite often it is us that needs to change in order for a situation or circumstance to change. Oh, so much change can overwhelm the soul.
Put To The Test
It was simply a matter of being in the right place at the right time. I had the ability and resources to fill an immediate need that presented itself. I was no hero, but I knew that it wasn't a complete accident that I was the person there in the moment. And I was wise enough to know that it had nothing to do with me personally, just that The Lord desired me to be His vessel
A Fickle Cycle
Change is never easy. And quick changes are rarely long-lasting. Rapid quick changes are usually a symptom of dissatisfaction. Dissatisfaction often an unconscious response to the truth that something is amiss within our soul. Something amiss within our soul is the missing presence of Jesus within an area of our life.
Ushering in Newness
Spring is upon us. With the arrival of spring there is also the ushering in of newness. We anticipate its arrival and our souls long for its presence. We plan- often following through with these hastily made commitments- to clean out our closets, sort the massive stack of papers on the kitchen counter, and turn the earth in the garden.
Mercy in the Mess
My foot began to cramp as I barrelled along the highway at a rapid clip. Moving with the flow of traffic, I kept both hands steady on the steering wheel so that I felt a deeper sense of control over the car. The rain outside the windows pelted heavily against the glass creating a flow of water and blurry film that impaired my line of vision on the road ahead.
The Dirtiest Word
I lifted my head from the work before me to voice a question that had been moving itself from the bottom of my soul to the top of my mouth. Out loud to a gathered group I asked, “What is the dirtiest word to a Christian?”
Out To Lunch
I stood off to the side of the office kitchen cleaning up the last of my mess. The tell-tale signs of the lunch hour had begun wafting its way through the cavernous room. Several men had entered through the doors and, with lunch bags and square reusable containers tucked securely in their hands, they sat themselves down at a large round table that had seen many years of wear and tear.
Trial and Error
A wee bit overwhelmed, I put my hands to my forehead and took a deep breath. I was attempting to finish up a project with a business client of my husband and was down to the wire and final details, but my creative juices had run dry. I sensed a slight fear of failing in the task.
The Flood
With wild eyes brimming in panic, my youngest child rushed to tell me that the button on the water cooler got stuck as she was attempting to fill her cup. It took a moment before I realized that while we were upstairs discussing this predicament, the water cooler button was still stuck which meant the water cooler nozzle was unleashing it fury upon the kitchen floo
The Unfolding
My husband and I sat upon the end of our wrinkly unmade bed. The cat was far too curious for my liking wanting to absorb some attention for himself as our young daughter played quietly in another room. We clasped hands, bent our heads in unison, and boldly walked into the throne room of God presenting before Him everything that sat heavily upon our hearts.
You’ve Been Served
I walked up to the freshly wiped counter prepared to place my order. My preparation was really a loose thought as my eyes began to roam the expansive menu. What was originally a coffee in my mind was now a nearly limitless bounty of possibilities. I stood in wavering decisiveness; the barista on the other side of the clean counter stood with a lovely smile on his face. He was gracious and lovely and in no hurry to move me along for not a soul stood in line behind me.
Pitiful Little Sprouts
I pulled my car up into the driveway taking notice of the lush colourful urns flanking either side of garage doors. Slowly but surely the roots of the flowers I meticulously planted into the pots have taken root and the abundance of their leaves are becoming noticeable to the eye.
Trust Fund
Computer mogul Bill Gates is best known for his achievements in software development, but over the years as his fortune has accumulated, so has his philanthropic ways. Mr. Gates credits his mother for instilling in him the drive to give to others.
Waste Not, Want Not
While answering a few emails on my computer, a headline on the national news site that dominates the home screen on my computer caught my eye. Emails were quickly abandoned as I was sucked into the vortex that is the internet.
Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is
I could hear the angry voices long before I knew where they were coming from. Names were being thrown and bitterness laced every word. The argument grew in intensity and I swiftly moved away from the radiating heat. I was literally witnessing two grown men arguing over another man's garbage.
